Kaaro Karungi FC vs. Kigezi HomeBoyz FC
Date: 26th November 2024
Kickoff: 4:00 PM
Venue: Kyamate Playground
The much-anticipated Western Derby is upon us as Kigezi HomeBoyz FC take on Kaaro Karungi FC in a clash that promises intensity and drama. This fixture, originally slated for last Sunday, was rescheduled due to the Uganda Cranes Regional Tour in Rukungiri, where several of our players were summoned to represent the western region against the national team. Seremba Joseph put up a stellar perfomance here and was rightly crowned star of the match, as Sam Simbwa, the CHAN National Team coach, hinted that he shall summon the Sharp Shooter.
Current Form and League Standings:
We come into this encounter on the back of a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Kataka FC last Sunday, courtesy of Nkurunungi Ashirafu’s decisive goal from Seremba’s expertly executed scorpion kick. This win brought our tally to 10 points, placing us 7th on the table, six points behind the leaders.
Our record so far:
- 7 Matches Played
- 3 Wins, 1 Draw, 3 Losses
- 6 Goals Scored, 5 Goals Conceded
Kaaro Karungi FC, currently sitting 13th in the relegation zone with six points, have struggled for consistency this season. They have one win, three draws, and two losses from six games, scoring seven goals while conceding as many. They had no match scheduled last weekend, giving them ample time to prepare for this showdown.
Head-to-Head History:
This derby carries extra weight, given the shared history between the players and the teams:
- Last season, we drew 1-1 at our then-home Kabale Municipal Stadium.
- In the return leg, Kaaro Karungi edged us 1-0 at their former base in Ibanda.
- Most memorably, they denied us Big League promotion in the 2022 Regional League Playoffs after a 0-0 draw ended in their favor via penalties.
Coach’s Insights:
Head coach Tushabe Denis shared his thoughts ahead of the match:
“This game is about control and precision. We’ve worked on tightening our defensive transitions, especially given the familiar playing styles of their key attackers. Akiramu and Odeke will anchor our defense, while our midfield will focus on quick, decisive transitions to create scoring opportunities. It’s all about maintaining focus and sticking to our game plan.”
Team Captain Speaks
Team captain Seremba added:
“This game is a crucial milestone in our season. Winning will not only strengthen our push for UPL promotion but also rally our fans as we move forward. Every player is determined to give their all to secure the three points.”
Team News
We’ll miss the services of:
- Omoding William and Atwongiire Aggrey due to school commitments.
- Ogwang Joel, still recovering from a hand injury.
However, our squad remains solid, and Akiramu is set to partner with Odeke in defense.
What’s at Stake?
- A win would catapult us to 5th place, intensifying our promotion quest.
- A loss, however, would keep us static at 7th, missing a golden opportunity to climb the table.
